Called D-Day (or D Day), this is the day the Allies unleashed Operation Overlord to liberate Europe from German occupation. Under the command of U.S. General Dwight Eisenhower, the Normandy landings (Operation Neptune) the largest armada ever created occurred. It was postponed a day because of weather conditions. 1,213 warships (battleships, destroyers ...), 736 support ships, 864 freighters and 4,126 barges and landing craft 20,000 vehicles and 156,000 men on the beaches of Normandy. Landing on 5 beaches: Utah Beach, Omaha Beach for the American sector and Gold Beach, Juno Beach, Sword Beach to the Anglo-Canadian sector.
