At 19 h 11, the Nazca plate is moved under the South American plate and triggered the strongest earthquake ever recorded (magnitude 9.51). The epicenter was located near Lumaco in southern Chile. A tsunami is then spread on the Chilean coast and traveled the Pacific Ocean. The balance sheet shows 3 000-6 000 deaths and two million homeless.
