Aviation pioneer, Harriet Quimby, born May 11, 1875 and died on 1 July 1912 became the first woman in history to cross the English Channel by plane.
She made the crossing on a Bleriot monoplane motor Gnome. The Aero Club of America allowed him to be the first American woman pilot patented in 1911.
